This is a WALKING tour.

In this half day tour you walk the fascinating, chaotic alleys of Binondo where every turn is a cacophony of sight, sound, smell and taste. In both Binondo and Quiapo you will find fascinating nooks and even some Graeco-Roman and Art Deco architectures demonstrating the former grandeur of the City of Manila.

We begin at the Binondo Church, being the most enduring legacy of the city’s glorious past and dates from 1596. The exploration continuous while we travel to the Santa Cruz Church, the Quiapo Church and finally Asia’s only Neo-Gothic, all steel church the fabulous  San Sebastian.

During this walking tour you will learn about the history of the Chinese in the Philippines, the brief British occupation and have the opportunity to shop for native goods in Quiapo.

Tour Summary : pick  up from your hotel / house – Plaza San Ruiz and Binondo Church(1594) – Ongpin street and side-streets –Santa Cruz Church (1608) – Avenida Rizal – side streets of the Quiapo district to the Quiapo Church –  Bahay Nakpil Bautista house/museum(1914) – Manila’s largest native goods market under the bridge ”Ilalim ng Tulay crafts market “ – Hidalgo Street to the border between Quiapo and Manila’s San Miguel district to the UNESCO World heritage candidate, the San Sebastian Church (1891) – our driver will await you here for your transfer back to your house / hotel.

Itinerary

After conveniently being picked  up from your hotel/house, you will be driven to the heart of Manila’s old downtown where you meet with our knowledgeable, English speaking guide for a 2.5 hours guided walking tour (max. 6 people).

At Plaza San Ruiz facing the 1594 Binondo Church, in the world’s oldest Chinatown, you begin your guided walking tour. Walk down the chaotic length of Ongpin street (traditional Chinatown shops and restaurants) and side-streets into the district of Santa Cruz, to the 1608 Santa Cruz Church.

From here, you will walk down the traffic-laden length of Avenida Rizal, heart and center of what was once known as Manila Downtown, and through the side streets of the Quiapo district to the Quiapo Church. Here you will see fortune tellers, palm readers, amulet vendors, and herbal medical remedies. We will stop by the Secessionist-style 1914 Bahay Nakpil Bautista house/museum which is typical of the finest turn-of-the-century urban Manila architecture.

From there, we will stroll through the Muslim market and Manila’s largest native goods market under the bridge “ Ilalim ng Tulay crafts market“. From here , we will walk up Hidalgo Street to the border between Quiapo and Manila’s San Miguel district to the UNESCO World heritage candidate, the 1891 San Sebastian Church – the only cast iron church in Asia.

Here our driver will await you for your transfer back to your house / hotel.
