Harvest god, known as "Bul-ul" or "Bulol" |
|
Now sold as souvenirs, the Bulul is actually a fundamental part in Ifugao culture. In the Mountain Province each family
is supposed to have a harvest god or "Bul-ul".
A Bulul has a simplified human shape, whether male or female, carved out of wood. The idol is believed to house the spirits
or anchestors and is involved in traditional tribal rituals from rice planting, thanksgiving up to safekeeping of the harvest
in rice granaries. |

After six hundred years of silence, suddenly in 1991, with only minimal warnings, the
volcano erupted in all its fury throwing ashes and pyroclastic materials as much as 50,000 ft. into the atmosphere.
Now considered the biggest eruption of the 20th century, Mt. Pinatubo has fallen back to sleep, having left spectacular
lahar formations.
You may choose either to hike up to the craterlake (3 hrs ow) or use the 4x4 jeep nearly
all the way up and hike up and down the last 40 minutes only (ow).In both cases your reward is a dip in the craterlake
