NEGROS
“easy going people, sugarcane fields with ancestral houses & mountain hikes”
Dumaguete is the capital of Negros Oriental. Dumaguete is quite a gentle university city. Nearby Mt.Talinis (1900 m.) with its rare flora and fauna can be explored, being a challenge to seasoned mountaineers. From its foot
you can visit the 40 m high “Casiroro Falls” or “The Twin Lakes”. Beside for climbers and hikers, Negros is becoming quite a popular place for international divers, as magnificent dive – and snorkeling sites can
be found in the area south of Dunaguete. Eg Dauin, Apo Island and Siqijor Island. Whales and dolphins can be spotted in the Tanon Strait near Bais.
Bacolod is the gateway to Negros Occidental, often referred to as the province of large sugar plantations and ancestral
houses. Some of these houses are converted into museums, eg in Talisay and Silay. East of Bacolod Mt. Kanlaon rises 2,465 m above sea level.
This active volcano has two craters and is located in 25,000 ha. Mt.Kanlaon National Park. Bacolod’s famous Mardi Gras Festival called
“ Masskara” is a good sample of the easygoing gracious hospitality of the people in Negros.
