MINDORO
“Scuba Diving Haven”
Mindoro island is the nearest big island to Manila. The island has been well preserved. Among others because there is limited
airline connection and its hinterland is mountainous and sparsely populated.
Puerto Galera, part of Mindoro Oriental, is most known. You can get there by land transportation
( one way 3 hours from Manila) plus boat from Batangas (2 hours one way). The place is popular among Europeans and Expatriates
living in Manila as Puerto Galera offers over 25 dive spots nearby and a wide variety of food. Bigger resorts have their
own in house diving school. Obviously this place can be crowded during weekends and holidays. There are no big scale hotels. Minimum number
of stay can therefore be required during Peakdates.
Puerto Galera is composed of different inlets, stretching 42 kilometers. From Sabang, full of commotion due to its bars
and active nightlife, via the beaches of Big Lalaguna and Small Lalaguna, more suitable for families and/or sunbathers, via
Coco Beach, all the way up to White Beach. Sabang and White Beach host as a general the more economical
accommodation. It takes up to 2 hours by public transportation to go by land from one end to the other within Puerto Galera area. A faster
alternative is to charter a boat. Cost depends on your negotiation skills
Puerto Galera has many attractions, beside its excellent scuba diving. See our section Scuba-Diving. Activities such as kayaking, trekking,
beach hopping, hiking in the hinterlands and golf can be arranged by our Filipino Travel Center office in Sabang.
Pandan Island, located along the remote Western coast of Mindoro island. Accessible via San Jose airport plus 3 hours landride and
20 minutes boatride. You can also go by bus to batangas + ferry to Abra de Ilog + jeepney to Sablayan. This is a 10 hours trip. The island
houses one accommodation only, with simple fan rooms. Jump-off point to Apo Reef.
