BORACAY
“Where relaxing is an art”
Famous for its 4 kilometers (!) long beach of powdery white sand, that squeak when walked on, glorious sunsets and endless summer atmosphere, Boracay Island is the number two destination for travelers from abroad in the country after Cebu (which
has Mactan International airport).
There is no airport on Boracay island itself. To get there, one can choose out of two airports, located on nearby Panay Island. In both cases there is a 20 minutes boatride from Caticlan pier to Boracay island. One has to wade knee deep
through the water after getting off to set foot on Boracay.
“Caticlan airport”: used by airplanes up to 48 seaters (Seair and Asian Spirit), due to its short runway. Only a 10 minutes land ride to Caticlan pier follows. Various morning and afternoon flights are now available
to choose from.
“Kalibo airport”: used by jumbo jets up to 150 seaters (Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines). To reach Caticlan pier an additional 1,5 - 2 hours ride is needed.
Safety Note: Island hoppers witfh a lot of time and a low budget sometimes take a ferry from Batangas Pier (Southern Luzon) to Boracay. Or from Roxas (Mindoro island) to Boracay. We strongly discourage out of safety reasons
and do not avail of their highly irregular schedules / fares.
Travelers without obligations seem to have difficulties to leave this cozy island of 7 x 4 kilometers on the northwestern tip of Panay Island.
Sometimes end up staying for months. The shallow calm water, its broad 3,5 kilometers stretch of White Beach and wide variety of accommodation
makes it the ideal location for a holiday with children or to learn to Scuba dive.
Boracay might be considered a “commercialized” place by those nostalgic about the Boracay of days gone by. For sure, the growing
number of foreigners living on the island has injected an international flavor into the local culture, but compared to e.g. the islands of
Thailand, Bali and other popular destinations, Boracay is not touristy.
Boracay’s differences with other Philippines islands : ambiance is laid-back, numerous international restaurants too choose from, a
world-class golf course and nightlife. The two kinds of prevailing winds makes it also very suitable for various water sports.
