APO ISLAND
“For those who like it quiet…..”
The Apo Island has one of the country's wondrous secret hideaways. The Apo Reef, 34-kilometer reef in Sablayan is acclaimed as the best in
Asia and as the diving mecca of the Philippines and regarded as the second largest in the world. The Apo Reef Marine Park includes the fascinating
bird-populated islands of Binangaan and Cajos del Bajo, which are surrounded by waters with over 500 species of marine life and luxuriant
coral growth represented by approximately 400 to 500 kaleidoscopic coral species.
Located 5 km off the coast of Dauin in southern negros Oriental. Picturesque Apo island is a tiny (72 hectares), beautiful marine sanctuary
of volcanic rock. For those who like it quiet ! Bring your flashlight. Inhabitants are mostly fisherfolk. Diving and snorkeling are the obvious
things to do. To get there: 30 minutes travel time by land from Dumaquete airport plus 45-60 minutes by pumpboat. Care must be taken of the
strong currents (and the sun….). |
